After three days of practice, y3k and her crew are ready for the first race of the Rolex Maxi yacht Cup tomorrow. Our newest sail is a number 3, 3Di jib from North Sails. After a few ‘adjustments’ it seems quite fast in the low wind range(16-18kts) that we have been able to test it and is for sure very stable. Whilst there is currently no weight saving, it should hold its shape in a very large wind range and the only problem that we have had so far, is that when the sail was new, it was so stiff that it pulled the bolt rope out of the prefeeder during the hoist. Now it seems ok.

Y3k due has been sold. We wish her and her new owner may safe and happy miles.

Following a quiet winter, the racing season restarted in Palma. Seven Wallys competed in their class. Navigating on y3k, I couldn’t see us being any slower than last year but the others have definitely got faster. Indio has faster antifouling and new sails, Carpet are always optimising and fast in light airs so we had to be happy with fourth. Lets see how the situation develops in breeze. Many thanks to Mr Offen and the crew for the lift home as flights were a bit of a problem.

Two days of branding and shooting, y3k due is the new poster girl for Nespresso. She will feature in the publicity for the Nespresso Cup to be held in Portofino in May 2010. www.nespresscup.org

The new Y3k also won the Voiles de St Tropez  with a first place, three seconds and a third place. This also won the y3k racing team the Hublot trophy for the best boat of the year by a comfortable ten points, our worst place over the year being third. In light and variable conditions at the Voiles de St Tropez Y3k was beaten into second place overall by Wally 94 Open Season by just 10 seconds. In another race we were beaten by three seconds indicating just how close the racing is. The good news was winning the Hublot trophy for the overall season.

The semi hulls of the Wally 50m, project managed by Riviera Asset Management are demoulded in Fano Italy. They will be joined and the bulkheads installed before she is turned upright.

Not much time for yacht construction as 3 regattas were held this month, in the Giraglia inshores  y3k placed second.

At the Boat International Superyacht Regatta, Porto Cervo, Sardinia y3k is first in the Wally class and second overall. Finally at the Baltic Cup Laetitia (Baltic 56) managed and navigated by Riviera Asset Management is 6th overall and first Baltic 56.
